Maverick MRI is a state-of-the-art imaging center that specializes in wellness and preventive screening. Founded by a father and son team with a combined 50 years of experience in radiology, medical facility operations, and customer experience we are dedicated to providing our patients and referring doctors with the highest level of care and service.
Our center is equipped with the latest technology in MRI imaging, including an ultra-wide-bore 3 Tesla MRI machine that produces clearer and more detailed images up to 50% faster than our competitors. Our team of radiologists and technologists at Blue Star Radiology Associates are highly trained and experienced in interpreting and analyzing MRI scans, ensuring that you receive an accurate and timely diagnosis.

Maverick’s co-founder and Imaging Director, Abraham (Abe) Padua, has worked in the radiology field since 1975 and spent close to 30 years in MRI research & development with Siemens. He helped pioneer several new MRI techniques and protocols while working with radiologists at leading university medical centers around the U.S. By collaborating with some of the best minds in the field, he was able to help innovate imaging processes to improve quality control of metallic objects used in orthopedic implants, an achievement he received a patent for his contributions. This and much of his decades of trailblazing work have helped countless patients receive more accurate diagnoses and treatment outcomes.
Abe’s protocol optimization expertise and proficiency in MRI physics provide our referring physicians an exclusive opportunity to collaborate on new protocol development or have a diagnostic edge when using Maverick MRI as your imaging provider.
Darian Padua | Co-founder & CEO
After 10 years of consulting physicians in medical real estate succession planning and practice divestment, Darian Padua was inspired to follow his passion for preventive care. His collaborative venture with his father has resulted in a unique MRI screening business – Maverick MRI – that allows clients greater insight into their internal health than ever before. The ultimate goal of this industry pioneer’s mission? To help as many people as possible take control of their well-being, so they can live longer healthier lives!
With extensive experience working with physicians and medical facilities, Darian has acquired invaluable knowledge of the strategies and technologies used to enhance efficiency at medical practices while maintaining patient safety. His passion for leveraging cutting-edge technology drives him as leader of Maverick MRI – always aiming to provide top-tier service backed by state-of-the-art radiology equipment and experienced staff.
Outside of the office, Darian enjoys hiking, cooking, traveling, and serving as the President of San Antonio Young Professionals (SAYP), the largest young professional non-profit organization in San Antonio.
Sandra (Sandy) Padua |
Patient Advocate Coordinator
Sandra brings a wealth of customer service experience and passion to Maverick MRI. With 15 years in home health care, she has demonstrated her compassionate nature by providing round-the-clock care for Alzheimer’s and Leukemia patients through their illnesses. At Maverick MRI, Sandra is our first line of connection to the many patients who seek us out to schedule a scan.
When off the clock, she loves interior decorating projects and cherishes moments spent with her beloved 1-year-old grandson! As the Padua Family matriarch – as well as wife & mother to our cofounders – we are delighted that Sandra is working alongside us at Mavericks MRI, treating all who come through our doors like family.
